Since many of you enjoyed the tutorial for making your own envelopes with scrap paper, I thought I’d share with you a new twist - making envelopes with scrap fabric. There’s no sewing involved and I promise it’s every bit as easy as the scrapbooking paper envelopes.
The supplies you’ll need are:
- Scrap fabri
- Freezer Paper Tacky Tape (sometimes called Red Line tape - it’s super sticky and has red release paper on it)
- Scissors or rotary cutter
- Ruler
- Iron
Start by cutting your fabric into a square (any size will do but I recommend starting with at least 5”x5”)
Cut the same size square from your freezer paper.
The paper will roll up after you cut it, that’s no big deal.
Place your fabric, wrong side up, on the ironing board.
Take your freezer paper and place it waxy side DOWN onto the fabric, lining up all four edges.
Using a hot iron, carefully press the paper, keeping the iron moving - move it slow enough that you don’t jar the freezer paper out of place, but not so slowly that your paper burns.
Carefully flip your square over and press the fabric side, then set it aside to cool for a few minutes.
Once it’s cool, fold in the two sides and the bottom, just as you did in the Two-Minute DIY Envelopes tutorial.
Place a strip of thin Tacky Tape on each edge and really press down on the red release paper, making sure the tape is adhered to the fabric.
Bring the bottom edge up to the top edge of the envelope and press down on the sides, securing the tape.
And that’s it! Now wasn’t that easy? Now you’ve got another way to use up scrap paper and scrap fabric!
