Hi.

Welcome to Fuller by Design, where we explore what it means to lead a creative life. Because the truth is this - life is what you make of it. So let's make, every day. For life.

Sunshine and Songs and Special People

Today is a gorgeous, sunny, picture perfect, not too hot, not very humid day in the Washington DC suburbs. It's a day that would make you love summers in Virginia if every day was like this. It's also the birthday of my first surrogate babies, twin girls born 12 years ago today.

Twins

The weather was miserable that summer 12 years ago, I think it hit 107 degrees while I was in the hospital with them. If I was experiencing the Virginia weather for the first time that year, I don't think I'd ever come back. It was that brutal.

A little bit like that surrogacy experience.

But thankfully there are days like today, too - incredibly beautiful and perfect in every way. Days you want to last for a long, long time.

And thankfully some surrogacies are like that too.

I've been toying around with song lyrics and finding a lot of inspiration in them lately.

And interestingly enough, for each of my surrogacies there’s always been one song that seems to perfectly capture my experience and feelings at the time.

For this surrogacy, the one that’s on my mind and in my heart today as my twin surrogate babies celebrate their 12th birthday,is the song Landslide by Fleetwood Mac:

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Happy 12th birthday, sweet little ones. You’re in my heart today and always.

"Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac

I took my love and took it down I climbed a mountain and I turned around And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too

Well, I've been afraid of changing 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too Oh, I'm getting older too

I take my love, take it down I climb a mountain and turn around And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills Will the landslide bring you down And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills Will the landslide bring you down, oh, oh The landslide bring you down
